Job Vacancy: Publicity Assistant

Fitzcarraldo Editions is looking for a publicity assistant to join our small team in Peckham, south-east London. Reporting to the publicity director, this role will suit someone able to work as part of a small team while also demonstrating initiative and independence; who is committed to thoughtful, attentive author care; and who brings strong communication and organizational skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure. The ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm for the Fitzcarraldo Editions list; experience with Google Workspace and InDesign is desirable, but not required. This is an entry-level position for someone looking to build a career in literary publishing. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • supporting the planning and delivery of publicity campaigns across the Fitzcarraldo Editions list;
  • drafting press materials and responding to review copy requests;
  • acting as a first point of contact for general media enquiries;
  • maintaining and developing relationships with authors, agents, journalists, booksellers and festival partners;
  • booking travel and accommodation for authors and staff, and preparing itineraries where required;
  • assisting with the organization of launches, festivals and other events, and accompanying authors where required;
  • coordinating the mailing of books, proofs and catalogues;
  • managing prize submissions and overseeing monthly Bookseller submissions;
  • compiling press clippings, monitoring coverage and contributing to the weekly publicity report;
  • maintaining and updating the publicity contacts database; 
  • organizing and maintaining digital assets (author photographs, jacket images, press quotes and campaign materials);
  • taking minutes at campaign meetings and providing general administrative support to the publicity team;
  • assisting with the preparation of materials for the Bookseller Buyers Guide and supporting the creation of the Fitzcarraldo Editions biannual catalogue;
  • helping to maintain the company’s social media presence and update the website where required; 
  • supporting general office administration, including ordering stationery and coordinating supplies. 

This is a full-time role paying £27,000 per annum with a three-month probationary period. The role requires a minimum of three days per week in the Peckham office, and occasional travel with authors and attendance at evening events. Benefits include:
