Fitzcarraldo Editions will publish Mary Ruefle’s Golden Crumbs in October 2026, collecting her first three books of prose. This landmark publication will be Mary Ruefle’s first in the UK.
Golden Crumbs collects Ruefle’s short prose writing from The Most of It, My Private Property and The Book, all published by Wave Books in North America between 2008 and the present. Commissioning editor Rachael Allen acquired UK & Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, with exclusivity in Europe, from Wave Books on behalf of Mary Ruefle.
Ruefle has published multiple collections in the US, including poetry, fiction, non-fiction and lectures. Dunce, a collection of poetry, was a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer prize, and a finalist for both the 2019 National Book Critics Circle Award and the LA Times Book Award, and longlisted for the National Book Award.
Rachael Allen said: ‘Mary Ruefle is one of my, and many other writers in the UK’s, favourite authors. I am so glad to be able to present a span of her prose pieces from throughout her career in this format and at this moment, as her first UK publication, which will accompany her very beloved poetry collections and the iconic Madness, Rack & Honey (currently available from Wave Books), which is a touchstone for many writers. She is in a league of her own with her blend of transcendental realism and grounded absurdism. She is a master of the short form, whether in poetry, lecture or fiction, and I’m so excited to make these hugely evocative works available here.’
Mary Ruefle is the author of many books, including The Book (Wave Books, 2023), Dunce (Wave Books, 2019) which was a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize, and Selected Poems (Wave Books, 2010), winner of the William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America. She lives in Vermont, where she was poet laureate from 2019-2024.
